magpie duo

Jess Bull Anderson (sackbut), Felix Collins (lute)

magpie duo strive to uncover the underrepresented soundworld between lute and sackbut through shared experiences of early music, new commissions, and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Their recent project DOWLAND’S DREAM commemorated 400 years since Dowland’s death through an intimate blend of live music, art, and spoken word; immersing audiences in the duality of Dowland’s melancholia through both his lutesong and a contemporary mirror.

Within DOWLAND’S DREAM was a collaboration with composer Ilayda Oguz in a new commission of three ‘dreamsongs’, which explored an imagined subconcious dreamscape with text and artwork from Jess, and recently won runner-up in the Alpine Fellowship Music Prize.

Please get in touch if you are interested in developing collaborative projects, have any questions, or would like to discuss a future performance.
